Whether you have recently started looking into crystals or are an avid crystal enthusiast, you are bound to come across the selenite crystal at some point in your magical, metaphysical stone journey. It is a must-have to any crystal collector’s arsenal. With a wide variety of crystals out there, it’s tricky to keep track of the benefits for each of these healing stones. I will explain the believed benefits of selenite and 5 ways to use selenite in your everyday life.
What is Selenite?
Selenite is a crystalized form of gypsum. It typically appears fibrous. Most of the selenite being sold are clear and/or white in color, but there are also red and orange varieties. Selenite is not a very flexible crystal and will break if it is bent. It will break into pieces that are like stick shards of glass.
What’s the benefit of Selenite?
Selenite is an energetically versatile crystal. If you are in the holistic healing and homeopathic world, you come across certain herbs, plants, and fruits that are referred to as a “cure-all.” Well selenite is what I like to call a “cleanse-all.”
The Selenite crystal is renowned for energetic cleansing. You might be thinking that a lot of crystals are “cleansing” so what makes this one so different? The difference is selenite itself is used to energetically cleanse and charge all the other crystals!
It also has self-cleansing properties. You don’t necessarily have to cleanse your selenite, or at least not as often as the rest of your crystal collection. Selenite essentially acts as an energetic conduit for beings and things that need vibrational clearing.
How to Care for Selenite
Caring and maintaining your crystal collection is important to keep them clean and energetically charged, so its metaphysical benefits can serve you at its full potential.
Selenite is water soluble for extended periods of time. You do not want to soak your selenite or leave it in a damp place. You may give it a quick rinse under lukewarm water and pat it dry. Store your selenite in a dry place.
Although selenite is self-cleansing, it wouldn’t hurt to leave it in the sunlight to give it an extra energetic charge.

Here are my 5 ways to use selenite
1. Selenite to Cleanse Other Stones
There are various ways to cleanse and charge your other crystals. Some crystals may be dipped in water for cleansing. You may leave it out in the sunlight or charge it under the light of a full moon. If you are a reiki practitioner like myself, you may give your stones a quick reiki cleanse and charge. However, I find that the easiest way to cleanse and recharge my crystals is by putting them on selenite. I like to put them on my selenite charging plate overnight, so they will be nice and potent by the next morning if I need them again.
2. Selenite to Cleanse Crystal Jewelry
If you’re like me, you may have various crystal jewelry whether it’s a labradorite necklace, a pair of herkimer diamond earrings, a tourmaline ring, or rose quartz bracelet. Your crystal jewelry need cleansing and recharging just like your loose crystals do. You may not want to use water or sunlight to cleanse or charge them because of the various types of metal or string also used in your jewelry.
There are a few different ways you could use selenite to charge your jewelry. You could repeat the aforementioned method of using a selenite charging plate. You could also leave a selenite wand in your jewelry box. And for your bracelets, you could hang them on a selenite tower! This looks pretty cool too.
3. Selenite to Cleanse Your Own Aura
Selenite is a power tool to cleanse your own aura if you feel energetically stuck or frustrated. I like to use a smaller shape for aura cleansing like a selenite wand or you could use a selenite palm stone. Use the selenite shape of your choice during meditation.
First, set an intention. For example, you may say “I intend to clear my busy mind” or “I intend to clear my anxiety.” To keep the stone balanced, lay down and place the stone on the area of concern. The heart is always a good place to start.
If you are familiar with chakras and what each chakra is responsible for, place your selenite on the corresponding chakra. Practice deep breathing as you imagine the unwanted thoughts and emotions leaving your body with each exhale and imagine desired feelings like peace or clarity filling your body with each inhale. If there are multiple areas or chakras of concern, simply move the selenite to the next area of your body when you are content with the last area.
If you are a reiki practitioner like myself, you can incorporate selenite into your self-care practice or on clients if you feel intuitively called to do so.
4. Selenite to Cleanse Dreams
Have you ever had constant nightmares or dreams that consume all your energy? You may want to try rearranging crystals in your room. If there is a full moon, eclipse happening or other major energy-shifting planet alignments, start with taking out all amethyst crystals out of your bedroom. Amethysts are known to amplify dreams especially during major planetary alignments and full moons.
The next thing I would recommend is placing a selenite stone, such as a selenite wand or selenite palm stone where you sleep. You could place it under your pillow, on your head board or somewhere near your sleeping area, especially near your head.
5. Selenite to Cleanse Rooms
I love to buy large crystals to bring desirable energy into rooms. I love a large rose quartz in the bedroom to bring in loving energy. I love to have a large citrine in my office to bring in abundance.
Sometimes our rooms need some energetic clearing themselves. Whether the flow of energy is stagnant or perhaps a low-vibration event occurred there. I recommend keeping a large selenite piece in the room of concern.
I personally have a large selenite tower lamp in my bedroom. It serves a dual purpose; the selenite tower itself maintains clear energy in my bedroom and the lamp component inside the tower illuminates the room when I need a little extra lighting. Selenite literally brings love and light to my space.
You can find both the large selenite tower lamp and a small selenite tower lamp at highvibehome.co
All in all…
I hope my favorite 5 ways to use selenite is insightful. Selenite is one of my go-to crystals given its versatility. Look out for more crystal insights in future blogs posts here on the Aligning Mom blog!
